Let’s talk morning routine

"When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive - to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love" - Marcus Aurelius

Let's talk morning routine! Do you have a consistent routine to get you primed and ready for your best day ever?

Or do you roll out of bed, to the sound of a distressing alarm, frantically pulling clothes on, eating on the go, trying to find your keys to get your day started on time? A consistent routine in the morning can really re-frame how your whole day goes!

In Chinese medicine, just about every organ and function in your body runs on its own internal clock! How cool is that? It goes far beyond sleeping when it's dark and rising when the sun comes out!

Framing your day and especially your morning around this clock can help you go about your day with more ease and grace!

From 5-7am, we are on Large Intestine time! This is the ideal time to wake up, hydrate, enjoy some gentle exercise and eliminate! I like to drink a huge glass of warm water with a slice of lemon to nourish my digestion and get hydrated! My exercise varies from day to day but often it includes yoga, slapping qi gong (my favourite) or a brisk walk on the sand and if I have the time a swim too! Yes! This is the non negotiable start to my day and has been for years!

From 7-9am, our Stomach is in full swing! A warm, nourishing breakfast is advised to kick start your digestive fire and build long-lasting energy for the day ahead.

I understand there are times when things are busy and we tend not to prioritize this time for ourselves. But even 5-10 minutes is manageable and it is so much better than nothing!

The key to a good morning routine starts the night before! So do try and get to bed earlier if you are struggling in the mornings! Your body, mind and especially mood will thank you for it!
