Pregnancy & Postpartum Acupuncture on the Gold Coast

“Support for your incredible transition into motherhood”

Pregnancy changes everything.

Your body changes. Your sleep changes. Your emotions change. Your relationship with your body can change.

And then your baby arrives and suddenly you're navigating a completely different version of life.

At Rachel Fitzpatrick Acupuncture, I provide acupuncture and Chinese medicine support throughout pregnancy and the postpartum period, with treatment tailored to your stage of pregnancy, symptoms and individual circumstances.

My main clinic is in Paradise Point on the Gold Coast, and I also offer postpartum home consultations for new mothers who would prefer to receive treatment at home.

Acupuncture during pregnancy

Pregnancy is not always the glowing, effortless experience we're led to believe it will be.

Morning sickness, fatigue, body discomfort, stress, sleep changes and the emotional adjustment of becoming a mother can all make this time challenging.

Acupuncture may be used as a complementary therapy during pregnancy, alongside your usual maternity care.

Your treatment is adapted according to your stage of pregnancy and your individual health needs.

Pregnancy support in the first trimester

The first trimester can be a particularly intense time.

You may be dealing with nausea, fatigue, changes in appetite, heightened emotions and the uncertainty that can come with early pregnancy.

If you're experiencing pregnancy-related symptoms and would like complementary support, we can discuss whether acupuncture is appropriate for you.

Supporting you through the middle of pregnancy

As pregnancy progresses, the experience changes again.

Your body is growing and adapting, your sleep may change and new physical discomforts can appear.

Acupuncture treatment during this stage can be tailored to what you are experiencing at the time rather than following a fixed protocol.

Preparing for Birth

As you approach the end of pregnancy, your focus may naturally shift towards preparing for birth.

I offer acupuncture support during the later stages of pregnancy and can discuss birth preparation with you as you get closer to your due date.

This is not about promising a particular birth outcome. It's about creating a supportive treatment plan for this stage of your pregnancy and helping you feel cared for as your due date approaches.

What happens during pregnancy acupuncture?

Your treatment will always be adapted to your pregnancy.

We'll talk about how you're feeling, what's changed since your last appointment and anything you particularly want support with.

Acupuncture uses fine, single-use needles and treatment is adapted according to your stage of pregnancy and individual circumstances.

My intention is to create a warm, quiet space where you can take a moment to slow down and receive some care for yourself.

Because honestly, pregnancy can involve a lot of people checking on the baby.

Sometimes it's nice to have someone checking on you too.

Postpartum Acupuncture

The postpartum period deserves just as much attention as pregnancy.

After birth, your body is recovering while you are simultaneously learning how to care for a tiny human.

You may be exhausted.

You may feel emotional.

You may feel wonderful one day and completely overwhelmed the next.

You may simply want someone to care for you for an hour.

You may have heard the postpartum period being referred to as the fourth trimester, the first 40 days or mother warming.

This is because in Chinese medicine, the postpartum period has traditionally been considered an incredibly important time for rest, nourishment and recovery with the focus on Mum’s health and well-being as well as baby.

My postpartum treatments are designed around you, your recovery and what you need at that particular point in time.

Postpartum recovery and restoration

Postpartum acupuncture may be used as complementary support for concerns such as:

  • physical recovery after birth

  • fatigue and low energy

  • stress and emotional wellbeing

  • sleep difficulties

  • digestive changes

  • the transition into motherhood

  • general wellbeing and recovery

If you're experiencing symptoms that concern you, particularly significant physical or emotional symptoms after birth, appropriate medical care is important. Acupuncture can sit alongside that care rather than replace it.

Postpartum home visits

Getting out of the house with a newborn isn't always easy. And in fact, in Chinese Medicine, we don’t actually recommend it at least for the first 40 days!

That's why I offer postpartum home consultations for mothers who would prefer to receive treatment in their own home.

There's no packing the baby bag, no rushing out the door, and no trying to time everything around your newborn's schedule.

Just an opportunity to receive care in the comfort of your very own home.

What happens during a fertility acupuncture appointment

Your first appointment is a deep dive into your health history.

We'll talk about:

  • your menstrual cycle

  • ovulation and cycle patterns where relevant

  • previous pregnancies

  • fertility history

  • IVF or IUI treatment

  • medications

  • diagnosed conditions such as PCOS or endometriosis

  • sleep

  • stress

  • digestion

  • energy

  • lifestyle

  • your goals for treatment

I'll then develop an acupuncture treatment approach based on your individual presentation.

If you're undergoing IVF or IUI, we'll also work around your fertility clinic's treatment schedule.

Acupuncture During IVF

IVF can be physically and emotionally demanding.

There are appointments, medications, blood tests, scans, procedures and an enormous amount of waiting.

Acupuncture can provide a regular space for care and support throughout that process.

Your treatment plan can be coordinated around your IVF cycle, with the timing discussed during your consultation.

How often should I have fertility acupuncture?

This depends on your circumstances.

Some people choose regular weekly treatment during the preconception period, while others come in around specific stages of an IVF or IUI cycle.

We'll talk through what makes sense for you rather than automatically prescribing the same treatment schedule to everyone.

If you're preparing for pregnancy, starting earlier can also give us more time to get to know your health history and establish a treatment approach.

Working alongside your fertility team

I see acupuncture as complementary care.

If you're working with a GP, fertility specialist, IVF clinic, obstetrician or other healthcare professional, your medical treatment remains an important part of your care.

I'm not here to replace your fertility team.

I'm here to provide another layer of support alongside it.

A Personal Approach to your fertility care

My interest in fertility comes from both my professional experience and my own personal health journey.

I understand that fertility treatment can be incredibly vulnerable territory.

My goal is to create a space where you don't have to explain away how you're feeling or pretend that the process isn't difficult.

We can talk about the physical side of fertility, but also the stress, uncertainty and emotional load that comes with it.

You deserve care that sees the whole person.

FAQs

Can acupuncture help me conceive naturally?

Acupuncture may be used as complementary support during a natural conception journey. It isn't a replacement for fertility assessment or medical treatment where that is needed.

Do I need to have a diagnosed fertility problem to see you?

No. Some people see me simply because they want to prepare for pregnancy and focus on their health before trying to conceive.

Can I have acupuncture during IVF?

Yes. Acupuncture can be used alongside IVF, with treatment planned around your individual fertility treatment schedule.

Can my partner have acupuncture too?

Absolutely. I work with both women and men in preconception and fertility care.

When should I start fertility acupuncture?

There is no single correct time. Some people begin several months before trying to conceive, while others come in once they're already trying or beginning fertility treatment.
